Best Of The Month Blogging Carnival

This is the page that will host the Best of the Month Blog Carnival I announced I was going to make.
I know this isn't exactly a Carnival, since the topic is free. I could call it a "Collection" a "Compilation" or something like that, but I still think Carnival sounds well enough... Anyway, all our blog are already quite topic specific, so I don't think this will go against the usual utility of a Carnival. If our blogs were wow-related and not just gold-related (as maybe will be for some of the blogs that will appear here), this would be a Carnival with the ongoing topic of "how to make gold".

This are the rules for the Carnival:

(The first rule is you talk about the Carnival, the second rule is you always talk about the Carnival)
  • You have to host your post entirely on your blog.
  • You will have to put on your entry a link to this page*, which will host the list of the posts in the Carnival, stating clearly that the post is part of the Best of the month Blog Carnival, hosted by Not So Secret Society.
  • Entry will be accepted for the first four days of the following month, and the list of posts will be published on the fifth day... i.e., if you wish to submit a post made in December (be it the 1st or the 31st), you have time until January the 4th, and the compilation of posts will be published on January the 5th... I won't be too strict on this, since we all live on different time-zones, but you can't just wake up a week later and get your post in the compilation.
How to make entries
My e-mail is kreaton05 (at) gmail (dot) com....
Just write to me with a link to a post of yours which follows the rules.

Why the fifth of the following month?
Mainly for two reasons:
  1. If I published the compilation on the last day of the month, I could have had problems managing late entry.
  2. The 2nd of each month there is another, Carnival, probably the most important for the gold-blogging community. The Wow Gold Blog Carnival hosted by JMTC. I preferred not to get in any competitiong with this Giant of gold making.
I've also thought about publishing everything on the 15th of every month, like "Best of December/January", "Best of January/February" and so on...  But I didn't like the sound of it.

So, which was your best post this month?

The Auctioneer Hot Spot In New Orgrimmar, form Cold's Gold Factory
New Orgrimmar

You aren't still basing your auctioneering operations in the near front gate of Orgrimmar are you? The front gate commerce area in the new Orgrimmar era is one of the least efficient areas to use as your base of operations since Cataclysm. It is really bad compared to my new favorite area. Cata Darkmoon Cards- Fighting Competition with Singles? This is the Time to Buy! from ALTOs Gold"ish" Advice- The Worst WoW Blog Ever!
Last night, while I was selling a bunch of Mysterious Fortune Cards, I hit the AH, and I noticed a few things. One, when I searched the quest tab, there were a TON of cards listed, even more than normal (there are alot of Scribes on my server). So I started typing. Of Waves. Of Embers. Of Stones. Of Winds. And to my surprise, I was able to pick up a few items... (Read More)

Profit Margins: "Go Big or Go Home" or "Slow and Steady", from Bank of Wukam
This is an issue that troubled me quite a bit when I first started getting into serious jewel crafting for profit toward the end of LK. Since I was buying the uncut gems and not prospecting for them (I'm not sure it was profitable to prospect Titanium Ore for epics) I often ran into problems when the cut gem was selling for maybe 10-15g more than the uncut. I would usually just ignore that gem completely and focus on the ones that sold for a wider profit margin. However... (Read More)

THE GOLD QUEEN'S MUST-HAVE ADDONS, from The Gold Queen
I want to tell you about some of my favourite addons for buying, selling and keeping track of my auctions and gold making online.

1. Auctioneer
Download from Curse addons at http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/auctioneer.aspx
The grand-daddy of them all, Auctioneer is modular, and lets you download the entire suite or just the parts that you need. It keeps track of auction data, makes the auction house easier to use and navigate, lets you search for items, sell, check prices, everything! (Read More)

Kill Some Critters, Get A Critter!, from Miss Mediocre
Though I hate to encourage the slaughter of innocent bunnies, squirrels, sheep, cats, and all those other cute little critters scampering about Azeroth, I love pets. Offer me an Armadillo Pup companion, and I’ll slaughter 50,000 critters with a smile on my face! Well, maybe not a smile, but I’ll at least do it... (Read More)

Coattail Surfing, from Player Vs Auction House
Being a highly successful auctioneer is a lot of work. It is all about risky venture capitalism, identifying nascent markets, tapping into hitherto untapped fonts of wealth, cultivating your own army of farmers, constant awareness of breaking-news patch notes, daily (or hourly) scanning of the AH, commercial espionage of your competition, and occasionally downright sabotaging of said competition.(Read More)

Prospecting Gems in Cata - How to Make the Most Gold from Venture, LLT
Intro:
This is a long post, but I feel it touches on several key concepts that everyone needs to know in the current economy.  The lessons here apply to any shuffle - not just prospecting ore.
I feel that Alchemists, Leatherworkers, etc. can all get a lot of value from the concepts in this post.I mentioned a few paragraphs up what happened with the price of Obsidium Ore - the market dropped ~40% in a matter of days.  This will not happen with rare gems.  As more people hit level 85 and start raiding, rare cuts will see an increase in demand, fueling an increase in demand of uncut rares...(Read more)

Making Gold at Low Levels from JMTC
I recently started a little project of my own. I decided to level a priest from 1-15 and see how much gold I could acquire. I only paid for 2 Deadmines runs, which costed me 20g total, and everything else was quested. Most, if not all of the questing was done in Westfall, as this is an awesome place to earn gold & level at the same time. By level 15 I had 187g in my bags, more than enough to suffice at level 15. Do keep in mind I did not use any professions while leveling, if I would of had , I would of made double the gold...(Read More)

Tol Barad Peninsula: 450g in 30 minutes from Capped by Cata
Tol Barad Peninsula:
Tol Barad is a zone accessed at level 85. It's essentially the Wintergrasp of Cataclysm. However, it has some Gold making opportunities that play out a lot more like the Isle of Quel Danas. (Did I spell that right? No matter)
After reading this post post by Alto: Tol Barad - It'll "Lure" you in... I got excited and decided that I would check it out myself. So I packed my bags in Orgimmar and headed to the portal. I was greeted with a pleasant surprise. ... (Read More)

Mysterious Fortune Card Barking Tips from Cold's Gold Factory
As predicted in my original post on Fortune Cards and Fortune Cookies, the Mysterious Fortune Cards have been selling like hotcakes. These are legit in game gambling introduced into the game by Blizzarrd. If you are selling these in World of Warcraft, be prepared to field a lot of questions regarding these items. Also be prepared to deflect any claims of "this is a scam" in trade chat while you are barking. The key to selling these is proper explanations when needed and using enticing barking pitches... The Midnight Hour from Confessions of a Half Ass Gold Maker
Many players are looking for ways to exploit the basic tenet of a supply and demand economy. While performing my evening routine, I came across a lightbulb moment. After being caught up in my routine, I realized it was 12:04 am, therefore my Transmute CD was fresh and ready on my Alchemist. I immediately logged onto him, only to discover I was three volatile water's short of the needed mats. Dutifully, I marched down to the AH to buy some... (Read More)

Don't forget about your dailies! from Ele-Mental Gold
Dailies are one of the vital things that enable you to specialize your profession with skills that others may or may not have. This will result in you having some great market opportunities. Whether you use it to gain XP and some gold every day, for tokens or just for raw items to sell on the auction house as in case with the cooking dailies. They are easy to do and don't require that much time... Archaeology Guide by Miss Mediocre
Archaeology is of course the new Secondary Profession added to World of Warcraft, Cataclysm. It can seem a bit confusing to start, but it really is very simple and actually a bit addictive. Before you get started, you’ll want to decide what your goals are regarding Archaeology.

Use Your Hearth!
Utilizing your hearthstone whenever it’s available will greatly cut down on your travel time! Before heading out in the field, remember to visit an Archaeology trainer!..(Read More)

For the Hoard! from Player versus Auction House
Cataclysm is out in three days, and if you do not have three guild banks full of Eternals and Saronite Ore and Abyss Crystals and old newspapers/pizza boxes then you may as well submit to a life of poverty and panhandling for the next two years... right?
Not so much... (Read More)

On a more personal note

In this page I'll start posting some of the strange things that happen on my server's AH.
I created it to answer to a comment, so for now there is just the image I wanted to show.
