Blizzard realized the new Fishing Quests were useless

From the PTR 4.0.6 Patch Notes:
  • Rare fishing poles now have a chance to be found in the Bag of Fishing Treasures earned via the Stormwind and Orgrimmar Fishing daily quests.

Will this be enough to make the quest worth the time it takes?
Well, I don't think we have the informations to know it for sure. Some people are saying the two poles will simply be the [Bone Fishing Pole] and the [Jeweled Fishing Pole], which I would find strange and disappointing, since anyone serious about fishing has already one of those or the [Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole], which is obtained just by a rep-grind many people have already done before Cataclysm and that is surely better.
And the poles they'll have to put on those [Bag of Fishing Treasures] will better be really good, otherwise they won't still be enough. The old [Bag of Fishing Treasures], obtained from the Dalaran fishing dailies could contain lots of useful things and some high-vendor-price grays, while the [Bag of Fishing Treasures] we have today contains at best a gray item with a selling value of 18g.
My hope is that Blizzard will go further buffing the [Bag of Fishing Treasures], putting in there some other useful items and increasing the average value of the grays it holds...
This quests aren't "gold-making" quests, but it would be good having something to avoid the feeling of wasting you're time when you do it.

Probably the biggest problem Blizzard is facing, is that [Bag of Fishing Treasures] is easily obtainable at nearly every character level (except maybe for one Alliance quest which is done quite near some lvl 85 sharks... I'm not sure if there is an Horde equivalent... Please tell me if you know!), so they didn't want to put any big reward in it. I don't know why they made it this way. Even if they wanted fishing quest lowbies could do, couldn't they put two different quests rewards, depending on character level? Or two different quests, one with an higher level-requirement, made for high-level characters?

  1. These Fishing Dailies and Cookies Dailies are super fast and easy ways to work up your guild experience contribution on multiple characters regardless of the rewards.

  2. You're right, but there are better dailies to do so. Even not considering guild heroics (which will be easier to do when they'll require just 3 players from the same guild), there are a lot of other dailies one could do.

If you're still grinding some rep, or looking for Tol Barad Tokens, you have those useful dailies.

Even if you son't need their rep anymore, dailies from the Wildhammer Clan (except the escort) are faster than the fishing one, once you get there, and you can complete many of them at the same time. (I don't know how this is horde-side, but judging from what I see hordies doing, I suppose it's nearly the same).

The cooking daily is still really better than the fishing one, giving you tokens. I'm not saying one excludes the other (it's quite the opposite, actually), but I think it's weird two dailies with so similar entry requirements have such a different return.

  3. I have no idea why Blizzard would have the Cooking daily give you level 85 rewards (crates of meat, recipes, etc) and then have the Fishing daily give you basically level 1 rewards. The reward for a low-level toon should be the ability to do these daily quests at all - adding nothing of any remote value for level-capped players is a complete waste of everyone's time.

I used to be a pretty hardcore fishing person. Back in TBC I was the guy out in Eastern Plaguelands supplying the AH and leveling Cooks with Whitescale Salmon. When Wrath was released, I had exalted with the Tuskar as soon as it was feasible to do so, taking their turtle boats from zone to zone doing 17 days of dailies in a row for the fishing pole. I have the turtle mount. I have the Salty title and it's the one I use by default.

All that said, I've done the fishing daily twice since Cata launched. Maxing my fishing is a total waste of time with people with level 1 skill catching anything they want from pools. Deepsea Sagefish is NOT a good enough reason to have fishing above 50. Blizzard has killed this profession for me.

  4. My two lowest level toons are 43 and 42. I have leveled each of them 2 levels apiece JUST BY DOING THESE DAILIES. I have BOA experience gear on them from WoLK but haven't had time to play them other than these dailies.

As far as rewards go, anyone wanting the cooking recipes has to do the SW dailies to get the awards and recipes. It takes 81 tokens to get all the recipes sold for the new cooking. So my 85s do the cooking daily every day to get the tokens.

The fishing daily is crap but if I can spend a couple minutes fishing and maybe skill up while fishing and then get the skill up from quest rewards I do get a couple of fishing points every day--and I would not fish otherwise. It is about the worst thing I can imagine doing. I still do not have a max fishing toon anywhere.

Better rewards? How about a 5% chance of a Chaos Orb? Or a voucher to turn in for 10 skill points? Blizz could come up with better rewards.
